Interview of about 15-20 min with more emphasis on H.R. soimething like stress interview be firm with your ans.do not deviate he will try to confuse stisk to it even if wrong. Will judge you on confidence and attitude . Easy tech ques like Storage class in C, Dry-run , types of testing, diff. b/w C++ and Java, some ques. on Cobol,very easy small algoi like sawpping two variables (wiht ptr. or without temp. variable), calculate factorial.

For technical there were 20 multiple choice questions: Out of which about 6 was electronics and 14 was from computer related are

1. Full form of TTL and CMOS

2. Which is a good conductor (Extrinsic or Intrinsic)

3. What are the different types of capacitors (Electrolytic, dielectric...etc)

4. Select a passive component from the following (four choices were there)

5. Minimum no. of lines required for communication using RS232 (Ans: i think its 2)

6. To convert 1's complement to 2's complement and vice versa

7. 7. During which time we use 'size of' command. (ans: runtime)

8. Out of four choice we have to identify which is a macro.

9. There was one pointer expression related question.

10. To find post fix expression.

11. What type of operating system is unix (ans: pre-emptive,[not sure])
    a)pre-emptive b)non-preemptive c)batch

12. Defnition of turing machine

13. Where we use DFD(Data flow design)

I-Gate Sample PAPER Conducted On -- 16-Jun-2004

iGATE had come for campus interview for SRM group of institutions and some other colleges on 16.6.2004. It was also a off-campus selection for BE(CS/IT) students without arrears from other colleges as well.

Written test

Those ppl didnot change the written test pattern of 50 maths questions in 12 minutes. it is the same question paper which was posted here a few days back by some member. i attempted 46. the cutoff cud have been 40 or 42.

If u cleared the aptitude test then u have the same old technical question paper. the cutoff for technical was 11 0r 12 out of 20.

the GD was simple and just make sure u'r heard. u'll get selected. our topic was "WHAT WUD U DO IF U WERE A GHOST".

Some of the othe topics were
2) the nxt generation of indians
3) internet bills connections not relationships and other similar topics..

Out of some 1500ppl who took the aptitude test abt 90 to 100 were selected for the final interview, out of that only 25 to 28 ppl got selected.

This was probably d most unpredictable part.
They had selected around 35 ECE students still they seems to brush away ECE ppl. they were clearly in need of CS and IT. they asked some guys y they had opted for ECE if they were interested in s/f jobs?

preference was given to those who had a strong knowledge of java.

For ECE students they had asked

a) diff b/w c and c++
b)c- palindrome pgm
c)collecting fees in a school & storing it in a database for retrival after many yrs
d) finding second largest no by not using sorting
e)deleting duplicate numbers(repeated nos) in an array.
f) operaor overloading
g)encapsulation,plymorphism,dynamic binding, virtual fns and other basic c++ concepts.

But the questions varied from panel to panel. there were 8 panels in all with 2 ppl in each panel.

some dint even ask qestions abt proj, area of interest or even C,C++. they were more of HR kind and asked some questions like
"describe urself using adjectives".
"what wud u do if u had a very very close childhood pal of urs and u both are inseperable. both u guys are in the same company. if ur frind has a fight with the PM and quits the company, will u follow his suit????"

- if u say no he will say ur jealous. and opporunist.

just say some good reason for y u wont quit the company but still maintain a good relationship w/ ur friend.

- if u say yes he will surely not select u thro the next process.

some were hardcore technical and had a no-nonsense approach.

getting a suitable panel is pure luk and all the best for ppl who will take future exams of igate.
